Englewood, in the far southwest corner of the county, is a small fishing and retirement town on Lemon Bay. It straddles the Sarasota and Charlotte county line, and its beaches sit across the bay on Manasota Key. The town’s old main street, Dearborn Street, has a handful of restaurants, shops and murals, and hosts most of Englewood’s community events, including the Pioneer Days parade every Labor Day. Lemon Bay itself is a protected, shallow estuary that is good for kayaking and paddleboarding, and Lemon Bay Park has trails, a kayak launch and an environmental center.
Manasota Key was hit hard by Hurricane Milton in 2024. Road repairs continued into 2026 and some county beach parks on the key stayed closed for a long time, so check current conditions before planning a beach day there; Englewood Beach, on the Charlotte County side, is the usual alternative.
North Port, inland along U.S. 41 and I-75, has grown into the county’s largest city by population. Its best-known attraction is Warm Mineral Springs, a deep natural spring that holds a temperature of about 85 degrees all year and has drawn bathers for generations; the city is restoring its historic buildings while keeping the water open. Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park offers shaded hiking and biking trails along the creek, and the eastern end of the Legacy Trail reaches the city. In February and March, the Atlanta Braves play spring training games at CoolToday Park in the Wellen Park area.
Both towns suit travelers who want a slower and usually less expensive stay than Sarasota or Siesta Key. Englewood has small motels, cottages and vacation rentals close to Lemon Bay and Dearborn Street, while North Port has newer hotels and rentals near I-75 and the Wellen Park community around the Braves ballpark. Venice, Boca Grande and the Myakka River are all within about half an hour.

Yes. Swimming and floating in the spring is the main reason to go. The park charges admission and sometimes closes during cold snaps, so check the city’s page for current hours.
Which beaches are near Englewood?
Englewood’s beaches are on Manasota Key, across Lemon Bay. Englewood Beach is in Charlotte County; the Sarasota County parks farther north on the key were slow to reopen after the 2024 storms, so check their status first.
